2nd Weekend - Wynnum Community Wall Mural
Event description
In this hands on experience you will get to paint part of the Bendigo Bank Community Wall Mural for Wynnum with Brisbane Artists, All City Walls. With the outlines of the mural ready to go, you'll splash on colour to bring this mural to life. Imagine being able to say to your friends "I painted part of that mural in Wynnum". Art materials will be supplied. With your permission, your name will be listed as one of the painters on the WynnumNow.com website page for the community mural.
We are thankful to Bendigo Bank and Wynnum Commerce Inc for making this wonderful event and wall happen! This is the second mural that All City Walls has been involved in with Wynnum (go see our Cultivation Lane Mural) and we are excited to see their mural to take shape. It has been designed with the community painting in mind, with bright colours but also integrates some of the Wynnum animals.
The painting will be held over 2 weeks:
1st Week - Friday 19th and Saturday 20th November - This weekend will be the large filling in work, aiming at getting the first two layers done. Note that Wynnum Fringe starts on the Friday night and continues onto Saturday and Bay Terrace will be closed for that event.
2nd Week - Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th November - This weekend will be doing more detail work and will have longer sessions.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know how to paint?
On this second weekend we will do more detail and prefer those with a little more experience to help on that weekend (and the sessions will be slightly longer). You will be directed by the Artists from All City Walls. If you are not as experienced we suggest you book into weekend 1 sessions.
How long is the session?
On the second weekend - Each session is 2hr in length - with a quick safety talk and organising leaving about 1hr 45min of painting.
What do I need to bring?
You need to bring a hat (as you will be out in the sun and it is in a bitumen area), wear clothes that you don't mind getting paint on and are comfortable, and wear enclosed shoes. Please bring water containers and water (we will have resupply of water on the site).
Do I need a paint brush?
No paint and paint brushes will be supplied.
What ages can be part of the painting?
From 10 years and up for this second weekend. However, slightly younger painters can be allowed in the family group on the first weekend with supervision from their parents.
Do I need to climb a ladder?
No, the wall we have chosen is a low wall so no ladder work is required.
Is there wheelchair access?
Yes, the site is wheelchair accessible and we can organise the right height painting area. Please make a note of this so we can ensure the organisation when you book your tickets.
Can I book in for multiple sessions?
Yes, of course you can if you are keen. Don't forget that it might be a hot day so you might need a break. Maybe go off to a Wynnum Fringe event on the first weekend, or go for a shop or get some food at the shops around Wynnum. Or if you have a little experience in painting, then why not do some big coverage areas on the first weekend, and come back on the second weekend and get the chance to do some detail work.
Will I be able to do my own design?
The design has been pre-organised by the artists and laid out so that we can include as many people as possible whilst still giving the overall design effect so we ask that you don't deviate from the instructions from the artists.
Will my section still be the same at the end?
There are some areas that will need 2 layers, so may be overpainted slightly. We also may have to overpaint if there are drops of paint from other areas.
Can I take a selfie while I'm painting?
We'd love you to do that, and we ask that you tag it in social media with #wynnumwalls #wynnum #allcitywalls #wynnumcommunitywall
What if it is raining?
We will try to hold the event but we can't control the weather so that is why we are asking for a mobile phone number with your ticket ordering, so we can inform you if there has to be a postponement or cancellation.
Covid restrictions?
We will of course be adhering to any covid restrictions applicable on the days. We also ask that if you are sick with Covid or suspected Covid that you do not attend and contact the event co-ordinator to organise you cancellation and refund.
Cancellations and Refunds
Cancellations and refunds are available until 48hrs before the event timings.
