~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For one night only, Chinese restaurant Potluck will become the stage for two winemakers with Chinese heritage - one from Shanghai, and one from Melbourne.
Potluck is a new generation Chinese restaurant led by Esther Sun, who's multicultural upbringing and love for potluck dinners led her to fall in love with pan-Asian food and open Potluck Dining in Caulfield, focussed on family-style Chinese cooking with fresh ingredients Esther sources daily from the market.
Shanghai-based Ian Dai will be joining us to share his story as an unconventional Chinese winemaker, fiercely charting his own path under the Xiao Pu label after ten years as a sommelier in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Xiao Pu was founded in 2017 as a travelling negociant / winery that produces idiosyncratic cuvees experimenting with extended maceration, alternative varieties, and multi-vintage blending. Translating to ‘Little Garden’, Xiao Pu wines are a product of nature, made with sustainable practices and respect for the land and its people. Ian Dai works with local growers who share the vision of sustainable agriculture to produce wines with uniquely Chinese characteristics.
Representing Melbourne, Ray Chen, is an accomplished wine expert who’s cred includes time as a viticultural researcher at Cornell University and oenologist for Treasury Wine Estates, who's artistic output is demonstrated through Rongo Wines.
Ray founded Rongo Wines in Victoria, Australia, in 2021 following her seasoned ventures in the vineyards of New Zealand, France, and the United States. It is a vehicle for her winemaking philosophy, which focusses on a small-batch, low-intervention approach with locally sourced and sustainably farmed fruit. Every wine produced is crafted to complement the intricate flavours of Asian food.
