Description

Yabarra - Dreaming in Light

Join us for a special Reconciliation Week VR session at Lot Fourteen's iconic Bice Building.

Originally produced as the signature event for Adelaide Fringe 2020 and experienced by over 40,000 people, Yabarra - Dreaming in Light tells the Kaurna creation story of Tjilbruke, as interpreted by Karl Winda Telfer and the Williams clan.

As part of Reconciliation Week 2023, Lot Fourteen will bring to life the wonder of Yabarra in 3D animation - captured by co-producers Monkeystack.

Join us for a free 10-minute session, to experience the installation through virtual reality (VR) headsets; reflecting on the importance of preserving country and the 60,000 plus years of stories it holds.

“Dreaming in Light tells the story of Tjirbruki, but there are so many other elements – the stories of the stars and the ancestors are so important … It’s about looking after and caring for our environment and protecting these few open space places we have left” — Karl ‘Winda’ Telfer.

The original Yabarra - Dreaming in Light was a physical installation produced as the signature event for the Adelaide Fringe 2020, co-produced by the Adelaide Fringe, Monkeystack, Cultural and Creative Producer Karl Winda Telfer, Yellaka, implementation partners Novatech, Epson, and support from the Government of South Australia, City of Adelaide, The University of Adelaide, Illuminart, MOD, and the Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute.

We acknowledge we are on Kaurna Miyurna land. The Dreaming is still living. From the past, in the present, into the future, forever.
