YACWA Young Changemaker Workshop | City of Cockburn

“Be the change you want to see in the world”.
The City of Cockburn is developing a new Youth Plan in partnership with the Youth Affairs Council of WA and we need your insights to help us develop it.
A Youth Plan is a guiding document, that helps us plan for the next five years, on how we can best support and empower young people in the City. It aims to understand what's important to young people and identify what we need to do to make the communities where they live, work and play, the best places possible. Part of that involves meeting with young people in the City, and helping them to become sustainable advocates for change after the Strategy has been written.
We are thrilled to be hosting a Young Changemaker Workshop to empower young people in the City of Cockburn to take the first steps to becoming changemakers and advocates in your community.
This is for any young person aged 12 to 25 who lives, works, studies, volunteers or spends time in the City of Cockburn.
About the workshop
Hosted by the Youth Affairs Council of WA, in this workshop you will:
- Work through some challenges facing young people in the Shire that have been identified through the consultations
- Learn about the different levels of advocacy, including real world examples
- Explore the four roles in advocacy, and discover which role you resonate with
- Work through the barriers to change, and brainstorm ways to overcome them
- Craft your own mock advocacy campaign with a group
- Learn about the strategies to get your advocacy campaign off the ground
- Brainstorm your next steps for after the workshop
