Yarning on Country  

Join mother and daughter Colleen and Mauretta Drage for an unforgettable cultural experience at Kaju Yatka, Kalbarri Skywalk. 
  
During this event, Nanda Elder Colleen Drage, and her daughter, local artist and teacher, Mauretta, will share their knowledge of Nanda culture and country. The small group of attendees will have the unique opportunity to learn about the rich history, stories and traditions of the Nanda people. 
 
Colleen is an Elder of the Nanda people and has played an important role in preserving and promoting their ancient culture and traditions. Listen in as Colleen shares her incredible knowledge of Nanda Country and culture. 
 
Mauretta will lead an outdoor art session where attendees will create their own unique artwork to take home. Using paint and traditional techniques, participants will be guided through the creative process and learn about the significance of art in Nanda culture.  
 
Explore Kalbarri Skywalk, or Kaju ("sky") Yatka ("to walk") and discover the stunning beauty of the Murchison River gorges. Signage and artworks provide visitors with the opportunity to delve into the rich history of the Nanda people, the traditional owners of the land. The Skywalk at Kalbarri National Park incorporates artistic and interpretive elements that draw inspiration from Nanda Country and stories, including artwork created by Colleen and Mauretta.  

Meeting point: Kalbarri National Park, Kalbarri Skywalk. 

Maximum group size: 20 people. 
 
What to bring: Hat, sunscreen and drinking water. 

Schedule: This session will run from 10am. More information will be provided to registered attendees in the lead-up to the event.

This event is being held as part of our Every Kid in a Park project. Thanks to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.  

Additional Costs:  

Cost of park day entry is $15 per vehicle with up to 12 legally-seated occupants ($8 concession or $8 per motorcycle), which is payable on entry to the park. This is not included in the Yarning on Country ticket.  

Park passes offer a value-for-money option if you intend to visit Kalbarri National Park on more than one day during your stay, or if you wish to visit other national parks where entry fees apply. Purchase a park pass from the WA Naturally online shop.
