How to Ace 1984: Mastering the Human Experience Module

This course includes 4 hours of intensive preparation across 2 core Sundays, preparing for the Common Module: Texts and Human Experiences multimodal assessment. All sessions are delivered live and online by Yang, equipping students with the analytical and compositional skills needed to excel in this first major Year 12 task.

Day 1: Delving Deeper into Human Experiences in 1984

Learn how to unpack the significant human experiences within 1984 and explore how Orwell’s form, structure, and language reveal complex insights into humanity.
Students will be guided through analysing the assessment stimulus, rubric, and conceptual human experiences, with strategies for linking these ideas directly to the prescribed text.

Day 2: How To Find a Related Text and Ace Your Multimodal Presentation

Discover how to select, analyse, and connect a related text that meaningfully complements 1984. Students will learn how to structure, script, and present a multimodal response, integrating visual and verbal elements to meet top-band criteria.

In both sessions, students will engage in guided practice, explore model responses, and receive tailored feedback to strengthen their understanding and confidence ahead of the assessment.

ABOUT Yang

An outstanding, sought after English Teacher with decades of experience.

Yang is a senior English teacher at Marist College, Eastwood with more than ten years of teaching experience.

She was part of the Moriah College English Department when they came 3rd in the state for English in 2017 and 9th in the state in 2018. Her students have consistently achieved Band 6s in the HSC Advanced and English Extension 1 courses.

Previously, she has been an Assistant Head of English, Debating and Public Speaking Coordinator and the Literacy and Digital Coordinator.

Yang is currently studying a Master degree in Creative Writing at the University of Sydney.

In her spare time, she likes to research the field of educational psychology and develop resources on fostering metacognitive learners.

The knowledge Yang will share over these sessions will inspire and give a huge advantage for the upcoming Year 12 assessment task 1 and will contribute to the HSC English assessment mark.
