Event description

Yes Chef! is a brand new cooking school for your little ones, giving them the tools to bring the rigour, care and fun of a professional kitchen into their own homes!

Led by Cook Murph (from NECCHi fave Suntop Plaza), each week we'll learn how to work together, and build confidence in our own skills and abilities.

Week 1: Prepare Your Environment

One of the most important aspects of running a kitchen is your mise en place (French for "put in place")! We'll set up our space, discuss how we want to work together, and learn how to make a good list. Kids, how would you like your parent involved in the space? Parents, how do you want to be involved?

Week 2: Safety, Hygiene & Identifying Strengths

This week we'll focus on safety and hygiene in the kitchen, and identifying and appreciating everyone's strengths! What strengths do you think you will bring to the kitchen team? What are your parents strengths?

Week 3: Preparation & Storage

This week is a great chance to learn how you can be a support person for your family kitchen at home. Together we'll learn how to peel veg, and learn how to store foods to keep them delicious. How do you keep things crunchy? How do you keep things dry?

Week 4: Team Building

In the final week of the course, we're going to make pasta dough! This is a great chance to learn the power of teamwork, and how to anticipate what might be needed next. Where do you need to stand, and how can you help with the next thing? Plus, we learn how satisfying cleaning up can be, especially when done in a spirit of gratitude.

As you can tell, this is not your regular cooking course. We hope that through each session, everyone can learn how to read the room, identify their strengths (and the strengths of others), and enjoy the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that comes from helping each other.

Children will need to be supervised by their parent(s) for each session, but how that looks is up to everyone in the class! Children will be provided with an apron, and we ask they wear a plain white t-shirt and closed toe shoes to class. All materials and ingredients will be provided for. This program is designed for children age 3-5.
