Yidishe Trinklider: Come Sing Yiddish Drinking Songs!
Event description
Raise your voices and raise your glasses! We'll enjoy an evening of communal singing, celebrating the virtures of khavershaft (camraderie), harmonye (harmony), and mashke (liquor). We will learn and sing several classic Yiddish drinking songs; printed lyrics will be provided, and melodies taught by ear. No prior experience with Yiddish, singing, or drinking necessary.
Jonah Sidman is a musician, educator, translator, and cultural organizer in the Boston area Yiddish scene. He teaches Yiddish language and music to children and adults at the Boston Workers Circle and elsewhere. Jonah particularly loves to sing and translate folk songs from Yiddish to English and back. He is also a klezmer and Irish fiddler and can be found playing for contra dances all over the East Coast.
