1. What to expect from Naomi’s Yin Classes

Yin Yoga is different to traditional forms of yoga in the way it invites more stillness and aims to provide deeper tissue, ligament and fascia rejuvenation. Each shape is held for a few minutes and space between shapes is given for pause and integration.

There is no required skill level as Naomi aims to make all classes as accessible as possible. She teaches ages 3 to over 80 and has seen people who have limited mobility find improvement within weeks.

Naomi’s Yin Yoga is quite unique in the way it invites you to meet the physical body, the breath, the emotional states that accompany our ever changing human experience and the way in which we can use mindfulness to support the process. Some may call it a moving meditation and it is often found to be more accessible to people who struggle with the traditional sitting meditation practices on offer.

Naomi combines holistic therapeutic approaches so that the whole person is met in the space. Her invitation to meeting every experience with compassion and kindness rather than the common goal oriented world, comes from her belief that true self care is a radical act in a society that is all about pushing, fixing or avoiding our bodies and their innate wisdom.

A large focus of the practices is Nervous System regulation and there is much attention given to growing increasingly trauma informed and inclusive of all bodies. How this looks online is constantly evolving.

2. Zoom link and Booking

Note, Zoom link will be sent to participants via email (make sure to check spam folders) who have registered their booking no later than 30 mins before class is due to start. If you haven’t received your link 20 mins before class is due to start please email naomi@creativeheart.space and we will try to sort this out.

3. Safe Practice at home

Practicing at home can be very relaxing in your own space if you have that available to you. You may like to wear super comfy clothes, lower the lights, use an oil diffuser or find other ways of setting your space to be supportive.

If you are able, create a space where you will be able to relax- let your family or friends know that for 75mins you will be needing quiet and need to be undisturbed. If this isn’t possible that’s ok. If you have children who might come into the room please switch your camera off to protect their privacy. If you do not wish to have other participants see you (although if they are doing the practice this is unlikely), then having the camera off is also an option here.

As for what creates more safety in a home practice, it is important to really listen to your body and never push through or put up with sharp pinching pain. Yes we will have uncomfortable sensations of stretching at times but we are not wanting to ignore the body telling us something is not working. Naomi will give you a variety of options for most shapes and the recommendation is to only ever go to %70 of your capacity – this also supports deep opening in the body through gentler approaches and helps disarm the stress response.

If something isn’t working and you’ve tried a few versions, please find a resting shape like childs pose or just take a few mins to breathe seated or laying down. Naomi will be available to answer any questions at the end of the class and can trouble shoot options for your next session.

4.What you will need

A device to attend the class (we note that some people may need help in downloading zoom or navigating the online process – if this is you please reach out). You will be admitted to a waiting room and then given digital access.

Timely attendance- (Naomi will stop admitting people after the first few minutes of class so that she can focus on teaching. Participants will be asked to practice with their microphone on mute. A brief check in and hello off mute will begin the class and also as we end).

A space to stretch out.

A yoga mat or area of carpet that feels relatively comfortable – a blanket on the ground can also help.

A cushion/pillow or two.

A yoga block that can be purchased at most department stores as cheaply as around $10. If no block you can use firm cushions or even stacked books of similar size.

5.Taking personal responsibility for your practice

By purchasing a ticket to these classes you will be agreeing to take personal responsibility for your safety and will not hold Naomi or the RFDS responsible for outcomes of these sessions.

Due to the nature of online classes being in your own home or private space, we are unable to regulate the environment, or the degree or nature of your participation. Therefore self responsibility is key although we will do all that we can to support those who wish to attend.

It will be your sole responsibility to monitor your personal experience and stop the practice if you feel unwell or in pain. It will also be your responsibility to check with your health care provider regarding any pre-existing conditions before attending any classes or in the event that new symptoms emerge that you are concerned with.

Naomi may offer alternative poses or supports that may assist you but this is never to be seen as medical advice or to take the place of medical attention when needed.
