University of Queensland Art Museum & Brisbane Festival

Breathing new life into storytelling.

Celebrated group Yirinda featuring revered Butchulla songman Fred Leone alongside musical polymath Samuel James Pankhurst premiere Wurgu, or 'East Wind' in Butchulla, a new commission specifically for University of Queensland’s iconic Mayne Hall pipe organ.

Situated in the University of Queensland Art Museum, this towering instrument is a dramatic stage for Yirinda’s unique blend of contemporary orchestration with the ancient ceaseless language storytelling and culture of the Butchulla nation.

Wurgu is an exclusive one-day-only performance that will breathe new life into this historic instrument.
