Youth Mental Health First Aid Training: 2023

About 1 in 4 young Australians experience a common mental illness each year. 

Proudly funded by Wagga Wagga City Council, this Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training will teach you practical skills to support an adolescent with a mental health problem. Make a real difference to the young people in your community.

Please note: must be 18 years plus to participate in training. 

YOUTH MHFA TRAINING BENEFITS:

  • Improves knowledge of mental illnesses, treatments and first aid actions
  • Increases confidence in providing first aid
  • Decreases stigmatising attitudes
  • Increases the support provided to others

LEARN PRACTICAL FIRST AID SKILLS:

  • Recognise common mental health problems in young people
  • Provide initial help using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan
  • Seek appropriate professional help, and
  • Respond in a crisis situation

Please note that this is a face-to-face 14-hour educational course, not a therapy or support group. 

You must be present for the full two days (for example; both the Tuesday 7 & Wednesday 8 March, OR Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 March, etc.) in order to become a Youth Mental Health First Aider. 

  • Dates: Tuesday 30 May & Wednesday 31 May 2023
  • Times: 8:30am to 4:30pm each day (must be present for both days)
  • Cost: $20 + booking fees  
  • Venue: Wagga Wagga City Council Committee Meeting Room, Wiradjuri Country   
  • Included: Tea/coffee, lunch and a copy of your own Youth MHFA manual will be provided. Sessions to be facilitated by registered local Psychologist John Dean.

Wagga Wagga City Council is proud to work with the Murrumbidgee Local Health District to significantly subsidize this training course for the community.
