YOOKAPA X Norlane Community: Mural Workshops
Event description
Join Norlane community members and local First Nations artists to share stories and develop an exciting new mural concept for Labuan Square. All are welcome!
Through the City of Greater Geelong, YOOKAPA has been awarded a public art commission to create two murals as part of the Labuan Square redevelopment on Wadawurrung Country in Norlane. This project is led by Tarryn Love, Curator of YOOKAPA, working closely with Wadawurrung Traditional Owner Nikki Mckenzie, First Nations artist Norm Stanley (Wurri-Ki Culture), First Nations students at the Kitjarra Centre (The Gordon), and local community in Norlane. The mural will launch early November 2022 with a community event to celebrate everyone’s contributions.
These workshops will be a casual, welcoming space for anyone who wants to help shape the mural design and narrative through conversations and artistic workshops. Our hope is that it will celebrate, reflect and connect to Country, First Nations voice and the wider, diverse multicultural community that calls Wadawurrung home.Â
YOOKAPA is a First Nations creative program based on Wadawurrung Country at Platform Arts. For more information, please contact Curator Tarryn Love tarryn@platformarts.org.au.
