Event description

Yorke Peninsula Council invites community members to attend an information session with Faith Coleman & Anita Thomas to learn more about the Harmful Algal Bloom currently affecting our region.

Faith Coleman works in numerous estuaries across South Australia, Australia and internationally, helping industry, site managers and communities develop deep understandings of estuarine ecological and biophysical processes, developing integrated approaches to estuarine and salina management, adaptive management of landscapes, climate change mitigation and sustainable natural resource use. She takes great joy in working with those on the 'coalface' of environmental change (mainly traditional owners, watermen, and primary producers), helping express the changes they see and providing guidance on how to drive these changes back toward desirable outcomes. She sits on the Board of the International Society for Salt Lake Research and is co-founder of the Coorong Environmental Trust.

Anita Thomas (Nedosyko) is the South Australian Oceans Program Coordinator for The Nature Conservancy. Over the past 8 years, she has designed and managed the restoration of large-scale marine and coastal projects including shellfish reefs and coastal wetlands. She is a marine biologist, a certified ecological restoration practitioner, and an associate lecturer at Flinders University. Anita sits on the Parks and Wilderness Council providing strategic leadership on the protected area system in South Australia. Prior to joining The Nature Conservancy, she developed a clownfish breeding conservation program at Flinders University, was as an environmental consultant and worked for the Commonwealth Government as an environmental assessment officer for mining and offshore oil and gas development. Anita is also the Chairperson for Society of Ecological Restoration.

Yorke Peninsula Council staff will provide an update on advocacy and support for impacted businesses and environmental monitoring.
