YOUNG CHANGE MAKERS
Event description
Young Change Makers is a 10 week permaculture based learning program for young people aged 12-16 years that arms them with practical skills to get through tomorrow. The program has 15 grant funded positions. This means each position in the course is free and paid for.
The program focuses on developing three key areas:Â
The essential skills needed for growing, harvesting and processing food.
Building lasting connections and friendships.
Developing resilience.
The program will include activities:
No-dig gardening/compost
Food forest management
Managing integrated animal-plant systems
Natural earth building
Harvesting fruit and vegetables
Outdoor cooking using natural materials
Indigenous knowledge and practices
The program is guided by the three ethics of Permaculture: Care for the Earth, Care for the People, Fair Share of Goods and Commodities.Â
The program will consist of 10 sessions during term 1 of the school calendar that will run every Monday starting from 6/2/2023 through until 3/4/2023. Sessions run for 2 hours, beginning 4.30pm and ending 6.30pm. The program is limited to youth aged 12-16 and we feel it is important for parents to sit this one out as developing independence and resilience in our students is an important element of the program.
