Your Rights at Work
Event description
Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected at work.
Understanding your rights as an employee can make a big difference—whether you’re already working, starting a new job, job hunting or perhaps new to working in New Zealand.
In this session Edward Brougham from Community Law Canterbury breaks down key workplace laws in simple terms to help you feel more confident and informed. It is also a helpful session for employers who want to do the right thing and better understand their legal duties.
Topics covered include:
Minimum Rights: Key components of employment contracts, your rights, and ensuring alignment with legal standards.
Employee Rights and Protections: An overview of workplace rights, including protection from discrimination, harassment, and health and safety.
Pay and Working Hours: Legal regulations on wages, overtime, working hours, holiday entitlements, and wage deductions.
Employment Disputes and Resolutions: Legal avenues for resolving workplace disputes, raising grievances, and challenging unfair dismissals.
After the presentation, there will be good time for Q & A.
