Rosalie Kickett is pleased to provide YOUTH ABORIGINAL & TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING (YAMHFA).Â
Learn how to assist Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional support is received or the crisis resolves, using practical, evidence-based Action Plan.
What is the format?                                         Â
This is a 14-hour course held over 2 days from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Who can attend this course?Â
Any adult can attend.
What this course covers:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
You will be grounded in social and emotional well-being from an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander perspective and explore strengths-based communication tips to engage and get support for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people.
Mental health first aid skills learnt by participants in this course can be applied in any setting. Course content includes case studies, videos and resources.
Developing mental health problems covered:
- Mental health problems in the community / SEWB
- Anxiety & depression
- Substance misuseÂ
- Disordered eating
- Gambling problems
Mental health crisis situations covered:Â
- Suicidal thoughts and behavioursÂ
- Non-suicidal self-injury (deliberate self-harm)
- Panic attacksÂ
- Traumatic eventsÂ
- Severe intoxication
- Drug-induced psychosis
- Aggressive behaviours.
