The Violence Free North Canterbury network invites you to a dynamic Youth-Focused Professional Training Day!
Session 1: "The Effect of Violence on the Adolescent Brain"
with Jim Sole, BrainWave
Jim has specialised in the Family Harm sector since 2000. He joined Brainwave in 2009 and presented to a variety of audiences and agencies. His focus is on engaging parents and professionals to support and develop their existing knowledge and skills. He likes to share stories and a laugh.
Session 2: "The Harmful Use of P*rn"
with Brett Harvey, Tāima Kōrero
Brett delivers engaging, honest and sensible information on the current p*rnography landscape here in Aotearoa, and what effect this is having on our young people. Backed by the latest statistics and research, Brett's workshops draw on his first-hand knowledge of the negative effects of p*rnography and provide attendees with an eye-opening insight into the multi-billion dollar industry that is targeting our tamariki and rangatahi. You will leave feeling well-informed about what our young people are seeing, how they are feeling about it and what you can do to support the youth and whānau in your space to deal with this growing issue.
The day will also include highlights of several violence prevention agencies from across North Canterbury and the youth-focused work they are engaged in.
Morning tea will be provided on the day, with an hour provided for participants to network, get some fresh air, and try one of the delicious cafes/restaurants around Rangiora's town centre for lunch.
