Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Heal.ed Tribe

Event description

Mental Illness is experienced by 2 in 5 Australian’s aged 16-24 years of age and suicide is the largest cause of death in our young people, yet most don’t know how to react too or support a young person who is struggling.

To support our young people, we must first attempt to understand what they’re going through.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is designed to teach you how to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems and increase knowledge, skills, and confidence to able to have supportive conversations with youth and help guide them to professional help and related support.

Heal.ed Tribe’s YMHFA training is co-facilitated by Mental Health First Aid Australia accredited trainers, including practitioners working in the mental health space and young people with their own lived experience of mental illness – providing the perfect blend incorporating real life examples and lived experience with evidence- based course content.

Youth Mental Health First Aid provides participants the skills and knowledge that could save a life, just like completing a Physical First Aid course. It has been shown to increase knowledge, confidence and helping behaviours, and reduce stigma.

Every adult who lives or works with youth should do this course!

Each YMHFA training consist of a mandatory 14 hours of course content.Modules covered include: Adolescent Development, Communication with Young People, Australian Mental Health Data, Depression, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Eating Disorders, Substance Misuse Disorders, Suicide Prevention, Responses to Trauma, Psychosis, Aggressive Behaviour and Deliberate Self Injury.
