Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Event description
This is a two day mental health first aid training course - 8:30am-3:30pm both days. This training equips adults who teach, care for, or support young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a young person experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.
Course participants learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adolescents, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem, and the treatments and supports available.
Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, course participants learn how to approach a young person they are concerned about and initiate a conversation about those concerns. Participants also learn how to offer initial support and information and how to help a young person to seek professional help or other supports.
Adults who complete the course become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders), equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to provide someone with mental health information and support when it matters most.
This training will be delivered by Principal Master Trainer, Libby Kustka.
Participants are required to make a commitment to attending the full two days of training. Please carefully consider this prior to booking to allow us to best utilise this training for our community.
Morning tea and lunch is being supplied, please advise if you have any dietary requirements.
This course is being delivered in partnership between Palmerston Association’s Suicide Prevention Coordinator Program and Hopetoun CRC, utilising funding from the WA Primary Health Alliance: Targeted Regional Initiatives for Suicide Prevention program, enabling this course to be available to the community free of charge.
