Event description

Earth and Me: A Nature Connection Summer Series for Children and Youth
In his 2005 book, Last Child in the Woods, writer Richard Louv coined the term nature deficit disorder (NDD). He proposed that all of us spend more time indoors, which makes us feel alienated from the natural world around us. Resulting in a myriad of chronic human health issues. 19 years after Richard Louv introduced NDD to the world, we find this concept more relevant than ever. We recognize the need to create spaces for all people to unplug from their devices and to connect with each other and the wonders of Nature.

With this in mind, we will be hosting a summer series designed to nurture children and youths’ curiosity, respect, and love for this beautiful planet we call home.

Saturday, July 20th 10am – 12:30pm: Herbal medicine making (Ages 12-17), Cost: $30-$50 a child

    • In this 2.5-hour workshop youth will learn about the amazing gifts of herbal plants, the importance of reciprocity and how to be in right relationship with the land. Moreover, youth will learn how to make their own summer herbal from floral goodies to take home.

    Saturday, August 17th 10am – 12:30pm: Nature journaling (Ages 12-17), Cost: $20-$40 a child

    • In this 2.5-hour workshop, youth will create their own mixed art nature journal and learn the basic principles of nature journaling.  Nature journaling is a creative, joyful and engaging way of interacting with ourselves and the world around us. It also allows us to record, explore and share our experiences.
