Youth Writing Saturday x QPoetry! 2024

Price $30 – $85 AUD Book your place

Event description

A very special QPoetry! edition of Queensland Writers Centre's monthly creative workshop for young writers.

Youth Writing Saturday comes to Judith Wright Arts Centre as part of QPoetry! 2024, with a series of interactive workshops on page poetry, slam poetry, and zines for young writers (ages 10-16 and 16-20).

Program

All participants will get a chance to participate in each of these three workshops (in a stream with your age group):

Slam Poetry

Step up to the mic and learn how to speak your poem aloud with our slam workshop. Join the fast-paced, high-energy world of spoken word, as you learn how to write and perform your own slam poem.

Page Poetry

From the stage to the page, let your imagination soar with a page poetry workshop. Whether you’re new to poetry or well-versed in verse, this workshop will build your skills and give you the tools to write great poems.

Zines

Need somewhere to keep all those words? How about a zine! These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to collect and share your work. Learn how to create your own zine and fill it with poetry you love in a relaxed and crafty zine workshop.

Plus, don't miss the chance to perform your poetry to an audience at QPoetry! 2024 in our special Youth Writers' Pop-Up poetry salon (12:30pm - 1:00pm, JWAC Courtyard), following the workshops.
