FAQs

  • Do I need prior D&D experience to attend?

Not at all! Our experienced and friendly Dungeon Masters cater to all skill levels. Whether you’ve played for years or this is your very first time rolling a d20, you’ll be guided every step of the way

  • Can I come on my own, or do I need a full group?

Solo adventurers are very welcome! Many players come on their own, and we will match you with a friendly table. If you are coming as a group, let us know during checkout so we can seat your companions together.

  • What are the food options for Lunch & Dinner?

    Your ticket includes two meals!

For lunch you get your choice from our exclusive MIDWINTER FEAST MENU

    • The Druid’s Grove (Vegetarian)

Greek-style salad featuring pan-fried halloumi served with vine tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, and dark olives, drizzled with an oregano, honey & spiced lemon dressing.

    • The Hunter’s Pot Pie

A rich, golden-crusted pie filled with chicken, cured holiday ham, and winter leeks. Served alongside seasonal greens, creamy mash, and gravy.

    • Traveler’s Winter Warmer Gobi Dhansak (Vegan)

A fragrant, midwinter curry of roasted cauliflower and sweet butternut squash, served over fluffy basmati rice with warm toasted chapati and zesty lime pickle.

    • The Hearthfire Stack

Flame-grilled beef patty layered with melted mature Cheddar, crisp salad, house burger sauce, and spiced Henry's IPA relish. Served with fries and crunchy coleslaw.

In the evening, our parties will share a "Heroes' Feast" charcuterie board - packed with artisan meats, cheeses, breads, and tavern bites. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options will be fully catered for across both meals. You can submit any specific dietary requirements or allergies when purchasing your ticket.

Your lunch order is taken after Checkout completion

  • Are drinks included in the ticket price?

A complimentary drink will be served alongside your Heroes Feast and water will be available at all playing tables throughout the day.

You will be able to choose from a Warm Firetide Mulled Wine or a Sparkling Elixir (non alcoholic)

Other drinks are not included in the standard ticket, but our tavern bar staff will be on hand at key points throughout the day to keep your flagons topped up! The Cellar Bar will have a selection of cold soft drinks and alcoholic beverages available for purchase. (Please note: Hot drinks will be limited due to tavern kitchen setup, and valid photo ID is required if you plan to purchase alcohol).

  • What should I bring?

Just bring yourself and your appetite for adventure! Pre-generated character sheets, dice, and playing materials are provided. However, we highly encourage you to bring your own hero miniature to represent your character on the battle map! You are also welcome to bring your favorite lucky dice set, and don't forget your cosplay or festive tavern costume if you choose to dress up!

  • Is there a dress code / cosplay policy?

Cosplay and festive fantasy attire are warmly welcomed and encouraged, though completely optional! Whether you come as a fully clad paladin, an elven ranger, or in cozy everyday clothes, wear whatever makes you feel comfortable for a full day of tavern gaming.

  • What is the venue like?

The event is held in the private underground setting of The Cellar Bar in Devizes (SN10 1HS). It features historic brick arches and cozy lighting, making it the perfect atmospheric tavern backdrop for a day of D&D. The venue has its own dedicated bar for purchasing drinks throughout the day, as well as on-site toilet facilities.

Please note: Due to the historic nature of the building, access down into the cellar bar is via a steep flight of stairs.

  • Where can I park, or how do I get there?

The Cellar Bar is located in central Devizes (SN10 1HS). Parking can be limited on site, however there are several public council car parks located within a short 2–5 minute walk of the venue:

    • Station Road Car Park (SN10 1BZ): Long-stay parking located just behind the main high street - ideal for full-day events.

  • Is there an age restriction for this event?

    This is an 21+ event.

  • Can I bring my own snacks or outside food?

Because full festive lunch and dinner spreads are provided as part of your ticket, outside meals are not permitted in the venue. However, small personal gaming snacks (like mints or sweets) are fine as long as they don't mess up the battle maps!

  • Is the venue accessible for wheelchair users or those with reduced mobility?

Unfortunately, due to the historic, listed nature of the property, the venue is not step-free. Access down into the private underground Cellar Bar is via a steep flight of stairs, and there is no lift access available.

We want all our players to have a comfortable and safe experience, so if you have any specific mobility concerns or accessibility questions prior to booking, please get in touch with the Chronicles & Companions team directly!

  • How many players will be at my table?

To ensure everyone gets plenty of spotlight, action, and roleplay time, tables are capped at a maximum of 6 players per Dungeon Master.

  • Can I take photos or record during the event?

Yes! Photos and social media posts are warmly encouraged (especially if you're in cosplay)! Just be mindful of fellow players' privacy, and feel free to tag us @ChroniclesAndCompanions on Instagram and Facebook so we can share your victory moments!

  • Can I buy tickets as a gift for someone else?

Yes! D&D tickets make great holiday gifts. Simply enter the attendee’s name and dietary requirements during the checkout process, or email us after booking to update the guest details.

  • Will there be breaks throughout the day?

Yes! Beyond your dedicated lunch and dinner feast breaks, your Dungeon Master will run short comfort breaks every few hours to allow you to stretch, grab a drink at the bar, or visit the facilities.

  • What happens if I need to cancel?

All tickets are non-refundable. However, if you are unable to attend, you may transfer your ticket to another person. Please notify us at least 48 hours before the event so we can update the table roster and catering list.

  • How will I be assigned to a table / DM?

Once ticket sales close (or closer to the event date), you will receive a welcome email with your table assignment, your DM’s details, and guidelines for character creation/selection.

  • Are there any safety or code of conduct rules?

Yes. Chronicles & Companions is committed to creating an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment for all players. We enforce a strict Code of Conduct (including Safety Tools like X-Cards/Lines & Veils) at every table. Harassment or discriminatory behavior will not be tolerated.

  • Are you the same team behind D&D in the Woods?

Yes, absolutely! We are Chronicles & Companions - the exact same team, DMs, and organizers behind the sold out D&D in the Woods events. For the winter season, we're swapping the forest canopy for stone arches and golden lantern light, bringing that same immersive storytelling, warm community vibe, and epic table moments into an underground tavern setting!

  • What type of game will we be playing?

We are thrilled to offer two distinct gaming experiences, tailored to your preferred play style and rule set. We will have two separate tables running simultaneously, each led by an experienced storyteller. Both adventures feature level 4 adventurers and are bespoke one-shots written specifically for this event!

While both games promise high adventure and immersive storytelling, we know players often have a preference for a specific ruleset:

    How to request a table:

    • Please let us know if you have a preference for DM Claire (5e - 2014 Rules) or DM Justin (5.5e - 2024 Rules) when booking your ticket.

    • While we will do our absolute best to accommodate all requests, spots at each table are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

    • Note: Regardless of the table you join, both DMs have crafted unique narratives designed to make the most of our woodland setting. Prepare for a one-of-a-kind journey!
