Zero Waste Oversized Tee workshop

Discover the art of zero-waste fashion and learn how to make your own oversized T-shirt from scratch.

In this hands-on workshop with Emroce designer Emma La Rocca, you’ll explore simple zero-waste pattern-making techniques to design your own oversized tee. This innovative method uses the entire piece of fabric, meaning little to no textile waste. Rather than working from conventional patterns that often leave fabric offcuts behind, this approach respects the creation and use of the fabric in its entirety.

With Emma’s guidance, participants will create a mini paper pattern for their perfect oversized tee. We'll then cut and sew the tee using your own fabric. This workshop is ideal for sewers who have used a sewing machine before and anyone curious about sustainable textiles and making clothes more thoughtfully.

You will need to supply your own fabric - Minimum 1 metre of your chosen fabric (1m x full fabric width). You could even use an old sheet if you wanted to upcycle and save money!

About the Tutor

Emma La Rocca is the founder and designer behind Emroce, a Pāpāmoa-based label internationally recognised for pioneering zero-waste fashion design. With a Bachelor of Fashion Design from Massey University and more than 16 years of experience developing zero-waste techniques, Emma specialises in pattern-making systems that eliminate textile waste while remaining functional and creative. Her work and teaching focus on helping both makers and industry rethink how clothing is designed and produced. Emma’s innovative methods have been shared with design students, fashion businesses and international brands seeking more sustainable production models.

This workshop is an opportunity to learn directly from one of Aotearoa’s leading voices in zero-waste fashion design and gain practical skills you can continue using at home.
