“A partnership In full fruition” Limelight Magazine

Zoe Knighton, Cello
Amir Farid, Piano

Saturday 8 August Doors Open 7pm | Concert: 7.30pm

Program:
Beethoven: Cello Sonata No. 5 in D Major, Op. 102 No. 2
Margaret Sutherland: Cello Sonata
Debussy: Cello Sonata
Lee Bradshaw: Sonata (World Premiere)

Since their 2009 debut at the Melbourne Recital Centre, cellist Zoe Knighton and pianist Amir Farid have cultivated one of Australia’s most intuitive musical partnerships. With seven acclaimed CDs on the Move label and a prestigious 2023 debut at Carnegie Hall, the duo has performed extensively across the country, earning a reputation for performances where "every note is cherished" (O'Connell the Music) and the "balance is perfect" (The Age).

This program highlights their "onstage rapport" (The Sydney Morning Herald) and a shared maturity that makes the repertoire "really sing" (Move Records). Anchored by the architectural mastery of Beethoven’s Sonata No. 5 and the vivid colors of the Debussy Sonata, the evening also features the Margaret Sutherland Sonata and the world premiere of a new sonata by Lee Bradshaw. Audiences will experience what Limelight Magazine describes as a "partnership in full fruition," characterized by an ability to "read each other so well" (ABC Classic) that every phrase feels like a live, breathing conversation.
