Trauma-Informed Practice - ONE DAY COURSE (23 May)
Event description
Reactions, realities, recovery
The experience of trauma can have a ripple effect throughout a personās lifetime. It can influence the way they think, work, form relationships and the choices they make ā years after the traumatic incident.
Experts increasingly suggest that a majority of adult clients of mental health services are people affected by unresolved (and usually unrecognised) childhood trauma.
Adult mental health symptoms may be indicative of someone who never fully psychologically developed beyond the age they first experienced trauma.
This insightful course explores what we know about trauma and how it presents in peopleās lives. It will assist participants to better understand the trauma experience and equip them to provide more appropriate and empathetic services.
Topics include:
- The nature of trauma
- Critical incidents
- ASD and PTSD
- Recognising symptoms
- Complex vs single-incident trauma
- Avoiding re-traumatisation
- Understanding adaptive symptoms
