16 Days of Activism: Community Walk
Description
Wear your brightest orange and join us for a community walk, as we come together to stand against gender-based violence and promote a future built on respect, equality and safety.
As part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, commUnity+, in partnership with Brimbank City Council, invites individuals, families, local organisations and community groups to walk in solidarity with victim-survivors and show their commitment to a safer, more equal community.
Violence against women remains a serious issue in Australia. More than one in three women have experienced men's violence. While not all disrespect leads to violence, all violence against women begins with disrespect. Each of us has a role to play in creating change by promoting respect, equality and inclusion in our homes, workplaces, schools and communities.
What to expect on the day
Join community members, local leaders and organisations from across Brimbank for an afternoon of connection, reflection and collective action.
The event will bring together:
A community walk: Walk alongside neighbours, families, community groups and local organisations to demonstrate a shared commitment to preventing gender-based violence.
Guest speakers and community leaders: Hear messages about the importance of respect, equality, prevention and the role we can all play in creating change.
Community connection: Meet local organisations and advocates working to support safer, stronger and more inclusive communities.
A shared moment of solidarity: Stand together to acknowledge those affected by gender-based violence and reinforce our commitment to a future free from violence
