Using AI to help write up research: Lessons from an enthusiastic novice

This seminar led by Dr Tracey-Ann Palmer (Faculty of Design and Society) explores how AI can support research writing. It reflects on her experience as part of a team writing a book based on a large research project that was conducted in a school. Whilst the team did not need AI, as the data was already sorted, it seemed to be the perfect opportunity to try out AI to see what it could do. Tracey experimented with ChatGPT (with security measures) and Copilot for searching and analysis. She will share practical insights from this process, including what worked, what didn’t, and what required a human touch.
