Capability and resilience

Popular for its effectiveness, capacity to enhance relationships and ability to achieve meaningful outcomes, strengths-based practice has its foundations in social work.

Where traditional approaches work on an individual’s problems and disadvantages, strengths-based approaches focus on building personal strengths and aptitudes.

Rather than aiming to address a perceived deficit, or correct clients’ deficiencies, strengths-based practitioners see clients as capable and resilient. They can then support a client’s preferences and abilities to achieve their self-determined goals.

This course will develop the skills of current strengths-based practitioners, along with providing foundation knowledge for those new to this approach. It also provides specific skills and templates for use with clients.

Topics include:

• Understanding strengths-based approaches and their benefits

• Goal orientation

• Links with mental health

• Assessing strengths, aptitudes and potential

• Strengths-based language

• Linking strengths with resources

• Links with solution-focused therapy

• Collaborative capacity building

• The role of hope

• Meaningful choice

This course includes:

SCHOLARSHIPS

We offer a small number of scholarships to those who would otherwise be unable to afford to attend. Scholarship recipients pay a nominal fee of $45 toward catering and materials. Click here to apply.
