Strengths-based Practice - ONE DAY COURSE (2 Dec)
Description
Capability and resilience
Popular for its effectiveness, capacity to enhance relationships and ability to achieve meaningful outcomes, strengths-based practice has its foundations in social work.
Where traditional approaches work on an individual’s problems and disadvantages, strengths-based approaches focus on building personal strengths and aptitudes.
Rather than aiming to address a perceived deficit, or correct clients’ deficiencies, strengths-based practitioners see clients as capable and resilient. They can then support a client’s preferences and abilities to achieve their self-determined goals.
This course will develop the skills of current strengths-based practitioners, along with providing foundation knowledge for those new to this approach. It also provides specific skills and templates for use with clients.
Topics include:
Understanding strengths-based approaches and their benefits
Goal orientation
Links with mental health
Assessing strengths, aptitudes and potential

Linking strengths with resources
Links with solution-focused therapy
Collaborative capacity building
