Framed by the exhibition Marking Time: 30 Years of the UniSC Art Collection, this special afternoon of programming brings together collection artists, collection-makers and collection supporters to reflect on how the UniSC Art Collection has been shaped over time.

Hear directly from Kim Guthrie, Peter Hudson and Susan Schmidt as they share insights into their work in Marking Time, as well as their broader practice and connection to the UniSC Art Collection.
Collecting with purpose

How does an art collection grow over time? This panel discussion with Dr Lisa Chandler, Dawn Oelrich and Megan Williams will explore how the UniSC Art Collection has developed over the past 30 years, from the vision behind it to the people who have helped shape it.
Philanthropy, collecting and cultural legacy
2.30 - 3.30 pm
How does art move from private collections into the public realm, and why does it matter? Join moderator Ross Searle in conversation with prominent collectors and advocates Ferre De Deyne, John Mainwaring and Simon Wright as they explore the vital role philanthropy plays in shaping and sustaining cultural collections.

Bios

Dr Lisa Chandler
Dr Lisa Chandler is an artist and academic and was the inaugural director of UniSC Art Gallery.

Ferre De Deyne
Ferre De Deyne is a collector, philanthropist, and arts advocate, as well as the owner-operator and managing director of the iconic tourist attraction, the Big Kart Track.

Kim Guthrie
Kim Guthrie is an artist who documents everyday people and the ordinary places he encounters.

Peter Hudson
Peter Hudson is a painter whose work explores the natural world, as well as themes of astronomy, mythology, and history.

John Mainwaring
John Mainwaring is a passionate collector and award-winning architect who donated his extensive art collection to UniSC in 2012.

Dawn Oelrich
Dawn Oelrich is a curator and writer who has held leadership roles at UniSC Art Gallery, Burnie Regional Gallery, and Redcliffe City Gallery.

Susan Schmidt
Susan Schmidt is a painter and designer whose practice is grounded in a concern for the environment, sustainable living, and the value of a simpler life.

Ross Searle
Ross Searle is an avid collector, benefactor, and arts professional who has held leadership roles at Perc Tucker Gallery in Townsville and the University of Queensland Art Museum, among others.

Megan Williams
Megan Williams is the current curator and manager of UniSC Art Gallery.

Simon Wright
Simon Wright is a passionate collector and experienced arts leader, currently serving as Assistant Director (Learning & Public Engagement) at QAGOMA, and formerly Director of Griffith University Art Museum.
