Event description

After a string of demo releases in 2023, and with a big 2024on the horizon, BARBARA are excited to play live for the very first time at the Petersham Bowlo and it’s gonna be A HOT FIRST DATE.

Come party with us in your dopest first date attire or your finest pink and red (or come as you are, we love everyone!)

BARBARA is a minimalist synth-driven Indie Pop project conceived by former stand-up comedian Ian McCarthy (He/They). With a penchant for early 2000’s electro production and a deep sentimental vocal presence that has been compared to the likes of Julian Casablancas and Nick Cave, BARBARA combines sharp abrasive beats with dreamy ear-worm hooks and a splash of pop experimentation.

Joining us on the lineup for the evening will be fellow Sydneysiders Library Siesta and MaruMaru.

Library Siesta write songs for heavy hearts that keep you on your toes. Inside melodic hooks and atop bright, scuzzy guitars are a collection of stories that shine a light on some of the darker sides of humanity.

Their 2022 album What You’re Worth garnered FBi and Triple J airplay and was hailed as a “masterpiece of a statement lyrically and melodically.”

Marumaru is the genre-spanning solo project of itinerant Sydneysider Avery Hutley. Exploring the outer reaches of singer-songwriting, Avery's songs are as unafraid to sit in stillness as to explode into impassioned chaos. While her productions are layered with eclectic and ethereal elements, from orchestral flourishes to glitching machinery, they maintain a disarming intimacy and an undeniable humanity.

MaruMaru is fresh off the back of a Japanese tour and the release of her sophomore album This Time Next Year in late 2023.
