A Taste of Sri Lanka
Event description
Learn to make some yummy dishes, popular in Sri Lanka, then sit down and enjoy them with others!
We will get a taste of Sri Lanka with our host Wijayantha (Reggie) Watagedara. Originally from Gumpaha, Western Sri Lanka, Reggie, moved with his family to New Zealand and to Mid Canterbury just over 9 years ago.
Under Reggie's guidance, we will make 3 curries - a chicken curry and 2 vegetarian curries; pumpkin black coconut curry and a jackfruit curry. All curries will be gluten and dairy free. Sri Lankan food is typically spicy but there will be options to make the curries mild or non-spicy if required. Curries will be served with rice, which we will cook in the oven, and a side dish called mallung, made with cassava leaves.
For dessert we will make Watalappan (coconut custard pudding) (vt, df, gf - contains eggs).
Come along and get some new recipe ideas, learn about another country and enjoy a delicious dinner together with others! Limited to 12 people so get in quick.
This month's event is suitable for vegetarians and those who cannot eat dairy and gluten. If you have any food allergies please check the menu and then contact us if you are unsure if the event will be suitable for you.
This event is one in a series of 'A Taste of... ' cooking classes organised & subsidised by Keep Learning Mid Canterbury and the Mid Canterbury Newcomers Network.
