International Art Textile Biennale 2023

International Art Textile Biennale 2023 celebrates the vibrant and evolving world of contemporary art textiles. In its second edition, this Biennale showcases a diverse array of works that push the boundaries of textile art.

The 35 finalists from 11 countries dismantle preconceived notions on what it means to be a textile artist and how this medium can express profound commentary. Diverse perspectives unfold in each piece, challenging inherited canons and questioning concepts such as body and beauty, isolation and community.

TILED

Australian Design Centre is delighted to present TILED in collaboration with kil.n.it Experimental Ceramics Studio.

Valued for the enduring properties of their clays and glazes, ceramic tiles are one of the oldest universal forms of decorative art. Today, tiles are used extensively in contemporary architecture and interiors.

The 18 kil.n.it studio artists use the tile as a canvas for exploration and experimentation.

رُفات قِدّيسٍ (rufat qiddys: object of a holy person): rachel ramsis farag

rufat qiddys is a phonetic translation of the Arabic phrase for object of a holy person, or, relic. For this Object Space exhibition rachel farag questions the nature of a relic – who decides what becomes a relic and what deserves to be immortalised or given value?

Australian Design Centre presents this exhibition in celebration of the 2024 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
