Afternoon Claytime Workshop
Description
Grounded By Designs is Newcastle’s eco-conscious ceramic studio and workshop space, tucked inside MOA & co in Carrington. Created by photographer and ceramicist Myf Garven, the studio is a place for slow making, creative exploration and connection.
About the workshop
Afternoon Claytime invites you to take a peaceful afternoon just for yourself. This relaxed, after-hours version of Coffee & Claytime is about slowing down, settling into the studio once MOA & co has closed, and enjoying creative time in a calm, supportive space.
With a maximum of six participants, there’s plenty of time for individual guidance. Together, we’ll hand-build a simple, functional piece, such as a cup, bowl or small vase, using foundational techniques like pinch potting, smoothing, and adding handles or feet, before giving you space to explore your own ideas.
All tools, materials and plenty of clay are provided. Bring your curiosity and readiness to play.
About the workshop
Investment: $120 per person (minimum of 4 people)
Snacks and all materials included
Your Afternoon Claytime ticket includes a guided hand-building clay session in the Grounded By Designs studio, all clay and tools required, a small drink on arrival and shared tasty treats from MOA & co.
The ticket also includes the glazing and firing of one handmade piece for you to keep. Most people make one to two pieces during the session. If you’d like to keep more of what you create, additional pieces can be added on for $20 per piece, payable on the day. This includes glazing and firing.
If your piece turns out differently from what you imagined, that’s all part of the process. In these cases, you’ll receive a $30 credit to spend in-store at Grounded By Designs or put towards a future workshop. This experience is about showing up, enjoying the process, and letting go of perfection.
It’s about the experience, not perfection.
Although Afternoon Claytime is available on select dates, Coffee & Claytime runs more frequently and is my main workshop offering for those wanting a regular way to reconnect with their creativity.
If you're planning a special occasion and prefer an after-hours option, your own private Afternoon Claytime sessions can be arranged for up to six people. It’s a lovely way to gather and make something meaningful together.
