Alternative Photography Workshop: Chemigrams

Event description

Explore alternative photography techniques with artist Simone Darcy and learn the art of chemigrams.

Chemigrams are created by forcing a chemical reaction between photographic paper and photographic chemistry. Resistant household materials (such as wax, Vaseline, nail polish, oil, etc.) are painted, scratched and sprayed onto photographic paper and then submerged into chemical trays to form patterns and marks.

In this one day workshop you will learn the chemigram process and make your own chemigrams. This process results in mesmerising artworks that become their own worlds, resembling celestial dark matter. You will be supported by artist Simone Darcy with techniques, tips and tricks gained from her extensive experience in experimental photography and darkroom photography techniques.

You will also work collaboratively with other workshop participants to create work for display in a group exhibition in Moonah Arts Centre's Avago Window Gallery from 18 October to 9 November 2024.

  • This workshop designed for adults, and is suitable for participants aged 15 years and over.
  • All workshop materials and equipment will be provided and are included in the workshop fee.
  • Please bring an apron or clothes that you don't mind getting messy, and closed shoes.
