Event description

Moonah Arts Centre presents
Justin Heazlewood’s Dream Burnie Book Launch extravaganza.

4pm & 7pm Saturday 8 February

4pm Book Launch Event: FREE

7pm Live Performance: $10

Join us at Moonah Arts Centre for two special events to launch the book Dream Burnie by Justin Heazlewood (of Bedroom Philosopher fame).

Dream Burnie is a literary showcase of the twenty most successful creative alumni to come from Burnie. Dream Burnie shares an array of personal stories from those featured, reflecting the culture and humour unique to Tasmania’s North West Coast and gives insight into the experience of being an artist in a regional area.

From 4pm – 6:30pm we start with a relaxed afternoon for everyone, with music and a pop-up art exhibition in the foyer of Moonah Arts Centre by artists from the book. There will be live book readings from Justin and an opportunity to purchase a copy of Dream Burnie.

From 7pm, there will be a special concert featuring Justin Heazlewood (The Bedroom Philosopher), performing a one-off set of some of the first songs he ever wrote when he was eighteen. This includes the anthemic, iconic 'Smells Like Hellyer Spirit' which hasn't been performed in public since 1998. Also 'Vee-Dub' about his mum's 1972 Volkswagon Superbeetle.

Justin will be followed by Marist College’s own, DJ Twinkle Digitz – a retro futuristic one-man band and sonic gymnast onstage, trapezing between pulsating synths, slinky guitars, LARGE beats and spicy vocals.

Tickets for the 7pm concert: $10

Book launch from 4-6.30pm: FREE just turn up!

Dream Burnie presented by the Burnie Arts Council, supported by the Burnie City Council and assisted by Arts Tasmania.
