Applied Manual Therapy — 2. Shoulder & Thoracic
Hands-On Learning for Therapists Who Want More
Session 2 of the Applied Manual Therapy series focuses on the shoulder and thoracic spine, covering presentations you'll recognise in clinical practice.
What You'll Learn
Rotator Cuff Dysfunction: Learn to palpate and differentiate supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis, and understand how strains, tendinopathy, and tears present differently under your hands. You'll also start working with the biceps tendon here, a structure this series returns to and treats in full in Session 3.
Scapular Dyskinesis: Learn to spot poor scapular control on movement testing, and trace it back to the muscles responsible, serratus anterior, the trapezius group, and the rhomboids.
Postural Dysfunction: Work through the muscle imbalances behind rounded shoulders and upper crossed syndrome, and what to actually do about the tightness and weakness driving it. You've already met this pattern in Session 1; here you'll treat the other half of it. Latissimus dorsi gets worked here as a muscle belly, and reappears in Session 4 through its fascial connection into the low back and glutes.
Clinical Reasoning: Build the skill of feeling, interpreting, deciding, and adapting, not just following protocols.

You already work with your hands every day. This workshop develops the palpation depth and clinical clarity to make every treatment more intentional. | For practitioners who believe that what you feel under your hands matters as much as what you know, and want to develop both. |
