Event description

Research shows that stress and trauma don’t just affect the mind—they also shape the body, influencing the nervous system, muscles, and physiology. Yet, many conventional approaches prioritise cognition, often overlooking the body’s role in recovery and regulation.

Somatic practices—grounded in research on nervous system regulation and mind-body integration—use movement, breath, and awareness to restore balance. Studies in trauma recovery and stress physiology demonstrate that these approaches can improve emotional regulation, resilience, and adaptability. Beyond clinical settings, somatic practices offer powerful tools for learning, leadership, collaboration, conflict management, and peer support.

By integrating body-based practices, we can create environments where people are better equipped to navigate stress, sustain wellbeing, and build stronger, more connected communities. Recognising the core role of practitioner wellbeing in client and community care, we will also be focusing on the embodiment and application of skills to support the nervous system regulation and resilience of practitioners.
