Applying Manaakitanga in building positive relationships in your practice

This event has passed Register

Event description

Manaakitanga is a Māori value and cultural practice that describes the way people demonstrate respect, care and consideration of each other.

In adult education, manaakitanga is conceptualised as a learning and teaching methodology. As a methodology, it is about uplifting the personal mana of other people by practising care, courtesy and consideration. These acts of manaakitanga contribute to developing an open and positive environment to work and learn in, and can be seen and felt in the interpersonal relationships between work colleagues; with visitors; between educators and learners; and between learners.

In this online workshop you will be able to:

  • gain some deeper insights into manaakitanga as a traditional Māori philosophy, a learning and teaching methodology, and as it relates to your work context
  • read and respond to some activities about manaakitanga.
