Applying Te Whare Tapa Whā in your practice – Online

This event has passed Register

Event description

Te Whare Tapa Whā literally means 'the four-sided house', but symbolically refers to the four dimensions that make up a person's wellbeing.  The four dimensions are:

  1. Te taha tinana – The physical and health dimension
  2. Te taha wairua – The spiritual dimension
  3. Te taha hinengaro – The thinking and cognitive dimension
  4. Te taha whānau – The social and family dimension

In adult education, a balanced programme of learning and teaching better ensures that all four dimensions of a learner's well-being are being addressed.

This online workshop is an introduction Te Whare Tapa Whā as a traditional Māori value and cultural practice and as a contemporary learning and teaching methodology. We will explore some ways to apply the Te Whare Tapa Whā as a planning template in your practice and the kinds of questions you might ask to guide your planning and teaching.
