April Advanced Nose Work Sunday - Confident Novel Exteriors
Event description
Intermediate/Advanced Nose Work for Confident Exteriors will take place at various locations in and around West Roxbury on recurring Saturday afternoons (4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/30) for 6 sessions. Each session will be 50 minutes long and be held between 3 and 3:50 pm.
This course needs a minimum of 3 students to run and will be canceled or rescheduled if the minimum isn't met.
This session will focus on building confidence in novel exterior locations through easy searches and pattern games while waiting in between searches. These skills will help dogs feel more comfortable in exterior searches at trials as well as during staging. These skills are also helpful for environmentally sensitive dogs even if you don't compete in nose work trials. Prerequisites for this course are Intro to K9 Nose Work, Intro to Odor, and Intermediate Nose Work. Dogs should be searching confidently indoors and have exposure to searching outdoors in familiar places. Please contact me if you need the prerequisite or have questions.
K9 Nose Work is a fun activity for dogs of all ages, sizes, and levels of physical ability. The activity gives your dog the opportunity to use and develop their natural ability to detect odor. This course is a continuation of Intro to K9 Nose Work and Intro to Odor. Dogs will continue their introduction to all three odors used in NACSW (birch, anise, and clove) in this class while continuing to build confidence and independence in searching.
For this class, each dog will have time in exterior spaces to help build confidence and independence, while the other dogs in the course will be nearby in staging areas or resting in the car.
Advanced K9 Nose Work is taught by Sara Saperstein, MA, KPA-CTP, CNWI, FFCP.
