Auckland Archi-Tours: Toi Apartment Building by Marutūāhu-Ockham
Event description
An instant Tāmaki Makaurau landmark, Toi is a seven-storey, 65 apartment stunner clad in harakeke-green bricks that offers breath-taking views of the Waitematā harbour and our beautiful city. The building sits just 400m from Pt Chev Village and is well connected to the city via public transport & cycling routes. Toi is the sixth completed partnership between Ockham Residential and Marutūāhu Iwi Collective.
The name Toi, means art or knowledge in te reo rangatira, but additional layers of meaning can be found within te reo Maori. Toi also means point, summit, indigenous or origin – appropriate for the first building in Marutūāhu-Ockham’s transformational Maungārongo project on the site of the old Carrington Hospital.
Like past Marutūāhu-Ockham projects, Kokihi and Tuatahi, the brick work skilfully references the tukutuku panels at Hotunui, the wharenui of Ngati Maru and the Marutūāhu at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
Meeting spot will be in front of Ol’ Mate café on the corner outside Toi.
Bad weather meeting spot will be inside the resident’s lounge.
Both of these locations are on the northern side of Toi – corner of Carrington Road and Te Ara Taurapa, Pt Chevalier (note that Te Ara Taurapa is a brand new road and does not yet feature on Google Maps, but there is a road sign in place). Car parking is available on the opposite side of Te Ara Taurapa next to the old Carrington Hospital buildings.
