Avocado workshop - Graft and grow
Event description
Avocado fruits are unique - there is nothing else quite like them. If you have always wanted to grow avocados but didn't think they would grow here in Gippsland, think again. They will not only grow in a cool temperate climate, but they can thrive if given the right conditions.
There are many different varieties of avocados available to grow and some are more suited to grow in cold climates.
During this workshop you will learn which varieties are the best to grow in cool climates, how to care and grow them and how to graft your own trees. You will also learn about pollination and why you dont need multiple trees to get fruit.
Avocados are not like many other fruit trees, where you can just plant them, give them a bit of water, mulch and food and walk away. Avocado trees are a bit more tricky to grow, but once you know what to do, they will thrive and can put on up to one meter of growth in a single growing season.
If you have tried to grow avocado trees in the past and failed or if you are thinking about growing avocados or maybe you have a mature tree but it never fruits, then this workshop is for you.
During this workshop you will find out when the best time to graft is and will be shown several different grafting techniques.
You will also get the opportunity to see some mature avocado trees on our property, as well as a developing avocado orchard with many different varieties growing.
You are invited to bring along any seedling avocado trees you may have propagated so that you can graft your own tree with scion from one of the varieties we have growing.
There will also be a very limited number of avocado seedlings available to purchase at the workshop.
There is very limited space available for this workshop so book early to secure a spot.
