Event description
BASKETRY BASICS WORKSHOP SERIES: TWIST, COIL, TWINE, STITCH!
Come along for a deep dive into the art of basketry. In this series of four Saturday workshops, you'll learn four distinct basketry techniques: the ancient craft of two-strand twining, lattice twining, and two beautiful approaches to coiled basket making.
This is a 4-week program.
Classes will run each Saturday 11am-2pm, on the following dates:
August 9th - Saturday
August 16th - Saturday
August 23rd - Saturday
August 30th - Saturday
Working with natural, easily accessible materials like raffia and jute, you’ll create something truly unique in a supportive small group setting. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to deepen your skills, this series is the perfect way to build your confidence, get inspired, and immerse yourself in the calming, creative rhythm of making baskets by hand.
What you'll learn:
How to work with natural fibres
The tools you’ll need
Two techniques for starting your basket
Two-strand twining stitch
Lattice twining
Coiling with Lazy Stitch
Coiling with Mariposa
Shaping and finishing your baskets
This workshop series is an excellent foray into basketry for beginners and intermediate weavers. You'll learn a new technique each week, and have the chance to practice it in between sessions. Our focus is on exploration, play and self-expression, not perfection!
All materials are provided, including a beautiful selection of natural fibres that have been prepared for you. Being a small class there’ll be time for personal tuition.
This will be a welcoming and relaxing space for anyone who wants to slow down, connect with nature and give weaving a go - or extend on what they already know!
BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL as there are limited spaces available.
