    What's a Digital Mentor?

A digital mentor is someone who helps other people learn and feel comfortable using technology like computers, smartphones, and the internet. They provide patient and friendly guidance, teaching them step-by-step how to do things like sending emails, using apps, and searching online. A digital mentor is like a friendly teacher who helps others become more confident and skilled with technology.

The Australian Seniors Computer Clubs Association (ASCCA) has again been successful in receiving Be Connected Capacity Building Grant funding from the Good Things Foundation.  ASCCA has been involved in Be Connected since its inception in late 2017 and has been empowering Australian Seniors through technology since 1998!

Funded by the Australian Federal Government, the Be Connected program aims to improve digital skills in older Australians [50 years +].

ASCCA will be working with partner organisations throughout 2023/24 to support people in regional and remote communities who fulfil voluntary or employment roles that support people to increase their digital skills.   If you're the ‘go to for tech’ person in your organisation or family, then you are the perfect person to step in as a Digital Mentor.  You don’t have to be a tech expert to be a great and effective Digital Mentor.  Supporting digital skills is not all about technical knowledge. Being a Digital Mentor is more focused on being good with people. You need to have patience, enthusiasm, adaptability and be good at listening.

ASCCA’s role as a Be Connected Capacity Building Network Partner, is to offer this FREE, full day training and follow up support to people interested in becoming Digital Mentors. As a Digital Mentor you will be able to deliver the Be Connected program and access grants to support your organisations' own Be Connected projects to mentor and support older Australians to use technology.

This training is designed to be a hands on, collaborative and engaging day of activities focused on encouraging, inspiring and enabling older people to embrace technology with the end goal of supporting them to be able to use technology confidently, competently and safely.
