FAQs

• Where do we meet?

  • We will meet at the parking lot (35.333860, -120.743617) across the street from the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education (SLOCOE), 3350 Education Dr, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405.

  • Please do not park in SLOCOE's paved guest parking lot. Park only in the unpaved lot.

  • From the meeting location, we will carpool/caravan to the project site, which is located in a gated area on Cal Poly property.

  • Please show up on time. If you arrive after we have already left for the project site, you will not be able to join us.

• When are the tours?

  Choose from the following tour dates:

  • TUESDAY, April 7th

  • MONDAY, April 20th

  • FRIDAY, May 1st

  • SATURDAY, May 9th

  Tours will take place from 9:30am to 12:00pm. Please arrive on time. If you arrive late, you may not be able to attend the tour.

• What will we do on this tour?

  The tour itself will last two hours and will involve walking through uneven terrain along a creek under full sunlight. We will walk throughout the restoration site and stop at various points to discuss things we see along the way. You'll hear stories and directly see the effects of the beaver dam analogs on the creek. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions along the way!

• What should I bring?

  • Comfortable closed-toe shoes for walking

  • Sun protection as needed (hat, sunscreen, long sleeves)

  • Clothing that is comfortable on a warm sunny day (breathable fabrics)

  • Water and snacks

  • Walking stick or trekking poles, if desired

• Can kids come on this tour?

  Yes! The tour on Saturday, May 9th, will be a family-friendly tour where we encourage kids to attend. If you're trying to decide whether this tour would be a good activity for your family, please note that this site is not accessible for strollers.

• What is the accessibility information for this tour?

  Physical requirements:

  Participation in this tour requires the physical ability to walk and stand for a 2-hour period of time. The tour will take place at a creek restoration site, which is unpaved and includes uneven terrain, so it is not accessible for wheeled mobility devices.

  Language and format:

  The tour guide will share spoken information in English with participants during the tour.

  Public transportation:

  If you are taking public transit, the nearest bus stop to our meeting place is right across the street at Cuesta College. SLO RTA Route 12 serves this area.
