Bead Weaving with Emma Buswell: Saturday 24 October

Learn how to bead weave with current ATW Artist in Residence Emma Buswell in this hands-on workshop. Emma will introduce you to the fundamentals of bead weaving, including how to make a simple loom from recycled materials, work with colour and create patterned designs. You’ll then put these techniques into practice as you begin developing your own beaded piece.  

Participants will also receive a pattern for a miniature design inspired by Emma’s much-loved roast chicken bag, which can be made into a beaded coin purse or card holder. Take your new skills home and create your own mini version of Emma’s iconic design.

No previous experience is required and all materials are supplied. 

Skill level: No experience necessary. Ages 15+

Emma Buswell is a Western Australian-based artist, curator and designer. Her work explores identity, community and Australian culture through craft-based practices including knitting, weaving and textiles. Drawing on kitsch, nostalgia and tropes appropriated from popular culture and Australian art history, Buswell transforms everyday objects and materials into playful, highly detailed artworks. Her work reflects on memory, place and family histories, informed by conversations and craft techniques passed down through her maternal family line.
