Bead Weaving with Emma Buswell: Saturday 24 October

Learn Emma Buswell’s bead weaving techniques and get the pattern for her much-loved roast chicken bag in this practical workshop.  

Emma will introduce participants to the fundamentals of bead weaving, including how to make a simple loom from recycled materials, work with colour and construct patterned designs. You’ll learn the techniques needed to create beaded work, then use them to begin developing your own piece during the workshop.  

Participants will receive Emma’s roast chicken bag pattern to take home, allowing you to apply the techniques you’ve learned and make the bag yourself after the workshop.  

Skill level: No experience necessary. Ages 15+

Emma Buswell is a Western Australian-based artist, curator and designer. Her work explores identity, community and Australian culture through craft-based practices including knitting, weaving and textiles. Drawing on kitsch, nostalgia and tropes appropriated from popular culture and Australian art history, Buswell transforms everyday objects and materials into playful, highly detailed artworks. Her work reflects on memory, place and family histories, informed by conversations and craft techniques passed down through her maternal family line.
