Beechworth Cook Book Club – Spring Lunch

$15 pp (+ booking fee)

Pull up a chair.

Beechworth Cook Book Club is a seasonal gathering built around food, conversation and connection.

For our Spring event, we’ll be cooking from Nothing Fancy by Alison Roman — a cookbook all about relaxed, delicious food made for sharing. The recipes are seasonal, generous and unfussy, making it a perfect fit for bringing people together around the table. It’s about good food, good company and the simple pleasure of sharing a meal together.

This event will be BYO, but we will be looking to partner with local producers for future events.

Here's how it works:

Choose a recipe from the cookbook, prepare it at home, and bring it along to share. Whether it's an entrée, main, side or dessert, every dish helps create a long table filled with generous food and good company.

This isn't a cooking competition, and you don't need to be an experienced cook. It's about gathering together, trying something new, sharing stories and meeting people from across our community.

Expect a relaxed afternoon of seasonal food, conversation, local flavours and a table full of familiar and new faces.

What's included?

  • A shared long lunch featuring dishes from Nothing Fancy

  • A welcoming community atmosphere

  • Plenty of opportunities to meet new people and swap recipes

  • Access to venue kitchen facilities for reheating and plating

What do I need to do?

  • Purchase a ticket

  • Peruse, browse and select a recipe

  • Register your recipe from the cookbook (you will receive a link to the shared recipe register - where you can enter your dish)

  • Prepare your dish and bring it along to share

FAQs

  • What is Beechworth Cook Book Club?

Beechworth Cook Book Club is a seasonal gathering built around food, conversation and connection.

For each event, we choose a cookbook and invite guests to bring a dish from its pages to share. The result? A table full of great food, good company and plenty of conversation.

  • Do I need to be a great cook?

Not at all. Whether you're an experienced home cook or trying something new, you're welcome at the table.

  • How does it work?
    • Purchase a ticket.

    • Choose an entrée, main or dessert.

    • Select a recipe from the featured cookbook (you will receive a link to add your dish to the list)

    • Prepare your dish at home.

    • Join us for a long lunch of shared food and conversation.

  • What cookbook are we cooking from?

Each gathering features a different cookbook.

The current cookbook and event details can always be found on our Humanitix page and social media channels.

  • I don't own the cookbook. Can I still come?

We'll share recipe inspiration, cookbook details and ideas in the lead-up to each event. If you're struggling to access the book, get in touch.

  • What if I don't know what to cook?

We'll be sharing plenty of recipe inspiration before the event.

Still stuck? Send us a message and we'll happily point you in the right direction.

  • Can I bring a friend?

    Of course.

Just make sure they purchase their own ticket and register their dish separately.

  • How do you avoid duplicate dishes?

When you book, you'll tell us what you're planning to make.

We'll keep an eye on the menu and do our best to create a balanced spread. A little overlap is all part of the fun.

  • Do I need to cook at the venue?

    No.

Most preparation should be done at home. The venue kitchen is available for reheating, finishing touches and plating.

  • What should I bring?
    • Your prepared dish

    • Any serving utensils required

    • A serving platter or bowl if needed

    • An appetite

  • Can you cater for dietary requirements?

As dishes are prepared by attendees in home kitchens, we can't guarantee that food will be free from allergens or cross-contamination.

We'll ask everyone to provide ingredient and allergen information (we'll provide ingredient cards at the event), but guests with allergies or dietary requirements should use their own discretion when choosing dishes.

  • Are drinks included?

This varies from event to event.

Depending on the gathering, drinks may be available to purchase, supplied by a local producer, or guests may be invited to BYO. We'll always include details in the event information.

  • Can I come on my own?

    Please do.

Many people attend without knowing anyone. The shared table tends to take care of introductions, and you'll likely leave having met a few new friends.

  • How many people attend?

For our first event, we're setting the table for around 40 guests.

It's large enough to create a wonderful mix of dishes and people, while still feeling intimate and welcoming. As the club evolves, the size and format of future gatherings may change.

  • Will there be more events?

    Yes.

Beechworth Cook Book Club is designed as a series of seasonal gatherings throughout the year. New events, cookbooks and ticket releases will be announced on instagram and facebook. At the moment, we're aiming for one per season, but this might grow as the event does.

  • Where does the ticket money go?

Beechworth Cook Book Club is run by volunteers.

Ticket fees help cover the costs of running each event, including venue hire, basic event supplies and other operational expenses.

Our goal isn't to make a profit. As the club grows, any surplus funds will be reinvested into the club or donated to local community groups, charities and not-for-profit organisations that help make Beechworth a great place to live.

Event Guidelines & Terms

Our aim is simple: to bring people together around a shared table.

By attending Beechworth Cook Book Club, you agree to these event guidelines, which help us create a safe, welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Bringing a Dish

Each guest is asked to bring a dish from the featured cookbook to share with fellow attendees.

When booking, you'll nominate whether you're bringing an entrée, main or dessert and provide details of your chosen recipe. We may occasionally contact you to help balance the menu and avoid too many duplicates.

Please bring any serving utensils, platters or bowls needed for your dish.

Food Sharing & Allergies

Beechworth Cook Book Club is a community food-sharing event. Dishes are prepared by attendees in home kitchens and are not supplied by a commercial caterer.

Please provide ingredient and allergen information when registering your dish and clearly identify any common allergens where possible.

Guests with allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements attend and consume food at their own discretion. While we encourage clear ingredient information and safe food handling practices, we cannot guarantee that dishes are free from allergens or cross-contamination.

Please email beechworthcookbookclub@gmail.com if you have a serious allergy.

Food Preparation

We ask all participants to prepare, transport and serve food responsibly.

Please:

  • Prepare food in a clean and hygienic environment.

  • Use fresh ingredients suitable for consumption.

  • Transport food safely.

  • Keep hot foods hot and cold foods chilled where practical.

  • Follow general food safety practices when handling and serving food.

  • The majority of food preparation should be completed before arrival. Venue kitchen facilities are available for reheating, finishing and plating dishes only.

Drinks

Depending on the event, drinks may be available for purchase, supplied by a local producer, or guests may be invited to BYO.

Where BYO is permitted, guests are responsible for consuming alcohol responsibly and in accordance with Victorian liquor laws. Alcohol must not be supplied to minors.

Looking After Our Venue

We are grateful to gather in community spaces that make these events possible.

Guests are asked to treat the venue, equipment and facilities with care and to report any accidental damage to an organiser as soon as possible.

Photography

Photos and videos may be taken during the event and used on Beechworth Cook Book Club social media channels, website and promotional material.

If you would prefer not to appear in photographs, please let an organiser know when you arrive.

Tickets & Cancellations

Tickets are generally non-refundable.

If you can no longer attend, you are welcome to transfer your ticket to another person. Refund requests may be considered in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the organisers.

If an event is cancelled by Beechworth Cook Book Club, ticket holders will be notified and offered an appropriate refund or transfer option.

Community Expectations

Beechworth Cook Book Club is built on generosity, inclusion and respect.

We welcome people of all backgrounds, cooking abilities and experience levels. We ask all guests to contribute positively to the atmosphere of the event and treat fellow attendees, volunteers, organisers and venue staff with kindness and respect.

Liability

Participation in Beechworth Cook Book Club is voluntary.

By attending, guests acknowledge that they are participating in a community food-sharing event and accept responsibility for their own health, wellbeing and personal property.

To the extent permitted by law, Beechworth Cook Book Club, its volunteers, organisers and venue partners are not liable for any illness, allergic reaction, injury, loss or damage arising from participation in the event.

Changes to Events

From time to time, we may need to make changes to an event, including the venue, timing, format or featured cookbook. Where possible, attendees will be notified in advance.

Thank you for helping us create a table where everyone feels welcome.
