Course Description:
In Introduction to Encaustic Painting you'll learn the origin of creating work from wax. You'll learn about the nature of this medium, the materials, and different effects that are possible. The class will use ready-made encaustic paints and various tools to create an original work of art. All materials will be provided. You don't need any previous experience to work in encaustics; they are endlessly variable and are as easy or difficult as you want them to be.
About the Artist:Â Mary Lamb
I've been involved in art and design for about 35 years, both in teaching and professional practice but began using encaustics about 10 years ago. My encaustics involve the use of a tinted hot wax medium applied to a solid surface or archival paper with a variety of tools and brushes. My work has focused mainly on accretions or the building up or layering of wax but I've also done collages and paintings. The medium allows ample room for creativity to grow and blossom.
