Beginning Hand Spinning with Susan Gladin
Event description
Ages 18+
Thursdays, January 19th - February 2nd
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
$30 for 3 weeks
This is a class for beginners who want to learn the basics of making yarn. We will begin with wool, which is the easiest fiber to spin, and teach the details of shearing, washing, and preparing the fiber. We'll practice preparing washed raw wool for spinning (hand carding). From there we'll introduce the basics of hand spinning (making yarn), starting with a hand spindle and progressing to spinning wheels. After some practice students will be encouraged to experiment with other fibers. The final product from the course will be a small skein of wool yarn, and hopefully the desire to make more!
All supplies provided.
About the Artist: Susan Gladin
"I am certainly not famous!" Susan is a fiber artist who raised her own fiber stock (sheep) for decades, and has taught hand spinning for about as long.
